SEDBUK means 'Seasonal Efficiency of a Domestic Boiler in the UK'. By comparing the SEDBUK ratings of different appliances you can get a fair comparison of the energy performance of different boilers.
An energy efficient boiler can make a difference in the following ways:
- It will produce less CO2
- It will consume less fuel
- As a result, it can significantly reduce gas heating costs
How is the SEDBUK rating calculated?
SEDBUK refers to the average annual efficiency achieved in typical domestic conditions, and the rating is calculated using:
- Typical domestic usage patterns
- The UK climate
- Boiler type
- Ignition
- Fuel used
- Internal store size
Step One: A SEDBUK rating assesses what percentage of the fuel that the boiler consumes is converted into heat.
Step Two: That percentage is given a rating using a scale from 'A' (at the highest level of efficiency) to 'G'.
SEDBUK can be used to estimate annual fuel running costs and all new boilers should be SEDBUK Band A or B rated except in some specific circumstances.
The Potterton high efficiency range
The Potterton range of boilers are all high efficiency. They carry a SEDBUK Band A or SEDBUK Band B rating and are amongst the most efficient boilers on the UK market.
Potterton increased efficiencies
As a result of extensive work carried out at Potterton's product design centre, increased SEDBUK efficiencies have been achieved for three ranges of Potterton boilers.
Further optimisation of the performance of current components used in the combustion system has delivered a significant increase in efficiency for the Potterton Promax Combi HE A, Potterton Gold HE A and Potterton Promax System HE A ranges.
The new ratings are as follows:
| Product description | Previous SEDBUK declaration | New SEDBUK declaration |
| Potterton Promax Combi HE A: 24, 28, 33 kW | 90.1% | 91.1% |
| Potterton Gold HE A: 24, 28, 33 kW | 90.1% | 91.1% |
| Potterton Promax System HE A: 12, 15, 18, 24, 32 kW | 90.2% | 91.2% |
