Keane Plumbing & Heating has replaced a 40-year-old boiler with a high efficiency model to reduce a homeowner's rising gas bills.
Mrs Hilda Simmons from Brentford was completely satisfied with the performance of her Potterton floor standing boiler, which was installed in the 1960s, but she noticed her gas bills were rising much more than those of her friends and neighbours. So when the system pipework needed some maintenance, she decided to have a new boiler fitted.
Heating engineer Kevin Peaker, who was responsible for changing Mrs Simmons' central heating system, said: "It was one of the oldest boilers I'd ever come across, but to be honest it looked immaculate. It was still in full working order, but unfortunately replacement parts were no longer available and it was not as fuel efficient as newer boilers.”
Mrs Simmons was keen to have another Potterton boiler after so many years of reliable service, so installer Kevin advised her to opt for a wall hung Potterton Promax 24/2 HE Plus heat only boiler. SEDBUK A rated with an efficiency rating of 90.9 per cent, the compact size, easy to use controls and fully modulating output to maximise economy made the Potterton Promax HE Plus an ideal choice for Mrs Simmons' three bedroom home.
The old system was upgraded from gravity fed to fully pumped, while the existing copper cistern was removed from the airing cupboard and replaced with a new fast recovery cylinder. The new Potterton Promax 24/2 HE Plus was then hung on a kitchen wall. A user-friendly programmer was installed at eye level - previously Mrs Simmons had relied on controls on the boiler fascia to regulate the central heating. TRVs were fitted on all the radiators to allow room-by-room temperature control.
Mrs Simmons said: "I am delighted with my new upgraded heating system and am especially pleased with the extra space in my kitchen as a result of moving the old floor standing boiler. But most importantly, the improved efficiency of my new boiler is significantly cutting my gas bills, so I'm saving money.”
Potterton product manger Simon Gibson said: "We are pleased that Mrs Simmons has enjoyed the reliability and performance of her Potterton boiler, and we are confident that she will find that the same standards apply to our high efficiency products.”
