Grants

There is funding available through the BERR (Department for Business Enterprise and Regulatory Reform) Low Carbon Buildings Programme to homeowners and other organisations who want to install microgeneration technologies.

Requirements

Before applying, BERR require that you carry out a number of energy efficiency measures.  These are:

  1. insulate the loft of the property to meet current building regulations e.g. 270mm of mineral wool or suitable alternative.
  2. install cavity wall insulation (if you have cavity walls)
  3. fit low energy light bulbs in all appropriate light fittings
  4. install basic controls for your heating system to include a room thermostat and a programmer or timer

Once these are complete, you will need to obtain a quote from a BERR certified installer before applying for the grant.

How much financial assistance is available?

 Microgeneration Technology  Maximum Amount of Grant
 Solar thermal hot water  £400*

Grants are available for other types of microgeneration technology and there is a £2,500 maximum limit on grants per household.

Approved grants will be paid once the system has been installed and commissioned and the installer has completed the installer completion certificate.
