Baxi Group is delighted that the Scottish Government has approved the introduction of a boiler scrappage scheme, similar to the one that has been running in England since 5 January 2010.
Mark Kelly, CEO Baxi Group UK and Ireland, said: "This announcement is very encouraging and we are pleased that the Scottish Government is taking a positive step towards raising awareness and incentivising people to replace their old boilers.
"As well as being good for homeowners and the UK boiler industry, initiatives like this will help the Government meet its targets for reducing UK carbon emissions.
"Although the details of the scheme have yet to be decided, this will be a great opportunity for Scottish homeowners to upgrade their old inefficient boilers with new, A-rated ones.
"Many properties in Scotland are in off mains gas areas, and the scheme will enable those households to upgrade to new high efficiency LPG or biomass boilers. This will save them money on fuel bills and help to reduce their carbon footprint.
A sum of £2 million has been earmarked for the Scottish boiler scrappage scheme. If it is run along the lines of the English scheme, where homeowners receive £400 cash back towards the cost of replacing their boiler, 5,000 Scottish households could be enjoying around £235 savings on their fuel bills per annum, as well as reducing their carbon emissions by 1.3 tonnes each year, according to the Energy Saving Trust.
